Waka

Nau mai, haere mai ki te kaupapa o Mātātoa — e haere ana tātou ki ngā ara o ngā Tūpuna ki Tāmaki Makaurau. Come join the Mātātoa team on their traditional waka, paddling the ancestral highways of our region.

We’ll meet at the location for a whakatau and short introduction/safety briefing before moving into learning essential paddling techniques and commands (20 mins). Once comfortable, we’ll venture onto our wakas for an experience seldom shared with the community of Tāmaki Makaurau.

After our time on the water, we will return to shore for a debrief / kōrero (40 mins).

Whether you’re new to waka or returning to the kaupapa, we welcome you to be part of this unique and meaningful experience.
