NYEGE: A Festive Wellness Carnival

‘Nyege’ means irresistible rhythm and joyful energy - the kind that calls you to move, dance, and celebrate life.

On Saturday, 6 December, from 11am – 5pm, join Black Creatives Aotearoa to celebrate NYEGE: A Festive Wellness Carnival, a vibrant fusion of Afro-diasporic rhythm, wellness, and joy in the heart of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

Guided by yoga teacher and MC Wendy Douglas, alongside Celeste Botha, Alvie McKree, Sharl Fynn, and DJ ORIKoL, Louise Mills and Victor Tomiwa Adepeju the day flows between high-energy DJ sets, live drumming, yoga, and creative expression. Designed as a wholesome, family-friendly experience, NYEGE invites everyone to reconnect through movement, music, and shared spirit.

Inclusive, joyful and full of heart, it’s a celebration of culture, connection and community in the warmth of summer.

This performance is part of Auckland Live Christmas in Aotea Square 2025 - a free, all-ages celebration in the heart of Tāmaki Makaurau, running from Friday, 28 November to Sunday, 21 December 2025.

Over 24 days, Aotea Square comes alive with live music, circus, film, karaoke, toi whakaari (performance) and whānau-friendly fun, plus large-scale artworks including The Pavilion and four-metre-tall light installation The Neon Star by Angus Muir.

Auckland Live Christmas in Aotea Square 2025 is an Auckland Council Event and proudly supported by the city centre targeted rate.
