Experience a blend of soul music, funk and modern Jazz with Wellington-based singer-songwriter Romi Wrights on Friday, 5 December, 6pm – 6.45pm.
Drawing inspiration from the sensibilities of the US RnB & Hip Hop scene, when Romi Wrights shares her voice, it’s hard not to feel transported back to the spirt of the late 1960s soul/funk era with her incandescent melodies and stirring stories of love, loss and the confusion that lies in between.
Raised between Porirua and the Hutt Valley, Romi started writing diaristic poetry at age eight before beginning to set her words to music during her teenage years. Since then, she has cut her teeth and shaped her sound across the motu, finding herself collaborating closely with Mānuka Recordings' Kenny Sterling, stringing together a tight and masterful evolving band of the country's best musicians, with a live show that's rendering Romi Wrights & the Commotions, a constellation of stars on the rise.
