A free, whānau-friendly International Women’s Day celebration aligned with the year’s theme: Rights. Justice. Action. The day features live readings by five inspiring female poets, a performance and poetry workshop, hands-on creative drop-in activities, and an afternoon open mic session alongside a potluck picnic, offering the community an inclusive and celebratory space to honour women’s voices, creativity, and achievement.
Discover the pioneering women after whom the rooms of Ellen Melville Centre are named. Explore themes of equity and empowerment inspired by Lisa Reihana’s striking sculpture Justice, installed on the building’s exterior, honouring Ellen Melville herself, a lawyer, advocate and champion for women. The scales are tipped in favour of women, symbolising both history and hope.
This event is about visibility. It’s about storytelling. It’s about claiming space.
- Come to be inspired.
