Over the years, Waiheke Island has celebrated important cultural events such as Waitangi Day and Matariki.
These occasions bring our community together in recognition of the stories, heritage, and traditions that shape Aotearoa.
However, we have identified a gap: Waiheke has never held a community-wide celebration dedicated to the cultures of the Pacific - the peoples of Moana-nui-a-Kiwa.
Given the deep ties between Aotearoa and the Pacific, and the strong presence of Pacific communities across Auckland, it is time for Waiheke to host its first Pasifika Day.
