This event explores stories of rice as a staple food in many cultures, especially in the Asian region, where rice is cultivated and distributed in various parts of the world. The rich vocabulary, stories, rituals, and culinary practices that certain cultures have of rice tell us about its cultural significance and its importance in everyday life.
Telling Our Stories of Rice features storytelling and an artist-led session. The storytelling session will read-aloud storybooks on rice (creation stories and folk narratives) from the Philippines and other Asian cultures. The artist-led session will involve a korero about rice/food production through a creative, hands-on activity.
