Join fellow Rakino Island snorkelling enthusiasts for a low-tide exploration of the Māori Garden Bay rocky reef, home to a variety of fascinating marine life. This relaxed snorkelling session will be followed by light snacks and refreshments, as well as an informal discussion about how the local community can help protect this special snorkelling spot for the future.
Participants will need to bring their own snorkelling gear and have basic snorkelling experience. A wetsuit is recommended, as time in the water will be approximately one hour. Attendees are encouraged to bring simple snacks to share afterwards.
Meet at the top of Ivan’s Track at 3:00pm, then walk down together to the Māori Garden Bay snorkelling spot. This event is best suited to Rakino Island residents due to transport and accommodation limitations, and it is weather dependent.
This event is part of EcoFest, an annual month-long festival taking place Saturday 22 March – Tuesday 22 April 2026. Inspiring climate action across Tāmaki Makaurau, it is hosted in collaboration by EcoMatters, Kaipātiki Project, Beautification Trust and Waiheke Resources Trust, and proudly supported by Auckland Council.
