After several sold out workshops around NZ, Ema is bringing back more Kintsugi workshops for all levels.

Learn the magical art of Kintsugi with artist Ema Frost. You can bring along a piece of your own pottery to restore in this beautiful style. There will be a few as back up if you don't have your own piece.

Ema Frost is a well-respected artist, who has been teaching Kintsugi for 5+ years and regularly travels to Japan to study and learn new techniques. Ema's illustrations and ceramic works sit in many of our country's best galleries. Her products and merchandise sell in the most stylish design stores and gallery shops. Her style is enchanting, quirky, feminine and colourful - clearly influenced by her travels throughout the world, usually off the beaten track.

Have you ever wanted to try Kintsugi?

It's an ancient Japanese art form where you fix broken pottery with gold - making its imperfections its beauty. A truly wonderful philosophy to live by. Nothing is ever really broken but new life and meaning is brought back making your piece a work of art and truly something special. You can also apply this technique on various materials like glass, wood, greenstone and shells.

Kintsugi (金継ぎ), or kintsukuroi (金繕い) - literally golden (“kin”) and repair (“tsugi”). This traditional Japanese art uses a precious metal (liquid gold, liquid silver or lacquer dusted with powdered gold) to bring together the pieces of a broken pottery item and at the same time enhance the breakages.

You will take away your wonderful finished work, plus your new skills which will enable you to further your own Kintsugi in your own time.

This class is not just for budding or accomplished artists. It is for everyone to enjoy a relaxing day of art and design with Ema.

What you will take away:

  • A finished artwork piece.
  • A understanding of Kintsugi.
  • Knowledge of the history of this beautiful art form.

Cancellation policy:

All workshops are non-refundable. We can offer you a workshop swap if we have at least 7-days notice prior to the original workshop date, subject to availability.
