Repair Café Aotearoa NZ and Holding Space Aotearoa have banded together to bring you our 3rd ‘Music Repair Cafe’, Tune-Up for Your Instruments - this time in Grey Lynn for NZ Music Month in May!
Our goal is to empower you to care for your instruments, provide practical assistance where possible and foster a culture of repair and sustainability within our music community.
Connect with fellow music lovers, share your experiences, and learn from our knowledgeable volunteers in a friendly and supportive environment.
Plus enjoy live music from Songwriters 4 Climate Action and more!
What we offer:
Our team of skilled volunteers will be on hand to provide a range of free services, including on the spot minor repairs.
We'll tackle small repairs and adjustments right at the event, if possible. This could include things like:
- restring instruments (you supply your favourite strings or can purchase some if available)
- cable testing
- cable repair if possible
- solder loose connections
- woodwind and brass instrument check ups
- orchestral string instrument check ups
- repairing guitar straps, instrument bags, costume etc.
We also offer advice on:
- recycling wires
- recycling batteries
- recycling strings
- instrument cleaning and maintenance.
If we can’t fix it, we offer instrument assessment: Bring your instrument in (in a case if possible), and our experienced repairers will give it a thorough check-up. We'll diagnose the problem and offer advice on what needs to be done to get it working again.
Important information:
While our volunteers will do their best to assist you with your instrument repairs, please understand that we cannot guarantee that all items can be fully repaired during the event. The complexity of some repairs may require more time, parts, specialised tools or professional attention.
Please note this particular repair cafe caters just to musical gear. Check out another repair cafe for fixing other appliances, clothes etc.
This community event is supported by Waitematā Local Board.
