Calling all young creatives in Tāmaki Makaurau!
As Matariki rises in our morning sky, the Māori New Year begins - a time for reflection, hope and fresh starts. So, we ask: what does 'new beginnings' mean to you?
Mt Albert Library invites you to get inspired and enter our Matariki Art and Photography Competition. We’re calling on all young artists, aged 5 - 18, to create artwork exploring what new beginnings, dreams and adventures look like through your own eyes.
CATEGORIES AND PRIZES
Tamariki Traditional (for ages 5-11):
- Any physical medium (eg. watercolour, pencils, paint, crayon, sculptures etc)
- Be in to win:
- $50 Westfield St Lukes Gift Card
- Auckland Zoo Family Pass
- MOTAT Family Pass.
Youth Traditional (for ages 12-18):
- Any physical medium (eg. watercolour, pencils, paint, crayon, sculptures etc)
- Be in to win:

- $20 Real Groovy Gift Card
- Auckland Zoo Family Pass.
Youth Digital (for ages 12-18)
- Digital illustrations, digital paintings, graphic design, 3D designs, or more.

Photography (for ages 5-18)
- Images must be submitted as .jpg files only.
- Be in to win:

Librarians' Favourite (for ages 5-18)
- Any category. Mt Albert Library staff will vote on their favourite pick!
- Be in to win a MOTAT Family Pass.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Enter from 27 June to 26 July.
All submissions require:
- one artwork
- a short statement about your art
- your full name
- your guardian’s contact information and approval.
Digital: Enter your details to our digital entry form and upload a copy of your hi-res artwork in jpg format.
Physical: Bring your physical artwork to the Mt Albert Library front desk and fill out a physical entry form.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Privacy:
By entering, you agree on behalf of your child to Mt Albert Library collecting information provided on this entry form. Contact information will be kept strictly confidential and used solely for the purposes of notifying you if your child's artwork is selected as a winner or exhibition piece, to invite you to the Award Ceremony, and to arrange collection of physical artworks after the exhibition.
If your child's artwork is selected as a winner of the exhibition, we will publicly display the artist's first name, age, title of the artwork and artist statement. We will never publish or share contact details.
For all entrants under 18, we require parent or guardian consent by signing the physical form or typing their name in the email. You will be contacted before any artwork is published or promoted online.
General:
By entering, you grant Mt Albert Library permission to display your child's artwork at Mt Albert Library in an exhibition, reproduce winning artworks as postcards to be distributed for free and promoted on our online social media channels.
Note, we may need to adjust artwork for printing via cropping, colour correcting or resizing.
No artwork will be used for commercial purposes. Postcards are free giveaways and not sold to the public. Winners will receive postcards to give to family and friends.
Full artist credit will be given on any reproduced postcards, exhibition labels and promotional materials.
