This two-day workshop introduces participants to the traditional art practice of siapo-making as a living practice. Through talanoa, we will explore the history of siapo in Sāmoa, its cultural significance and the ways it continues to be reimagined today.
Participants will engage in hands-on making, including bark preparation, beating techniques and working with natural pigments and materials to create their own piece. This workshop will also explore themes of cultural preservation, reclamation, cultural responsibility and self-reflection.
