Ranger‑guided local park discovery walk

Join our knowledgeable Community Ranger for a guided walk through one of the region’s most cherished natural spaces. This relaxed and engaging experience invites you to slow down, look closely and uncover the stories woven through the landscape - from ancient trees and native wildlife to the people who have shaped this place over time.

Whether you’re a regular park‑goer or visiting for the first time, this walk offers a deeper connection to the natural world right on our doorstep.

What you can expect:

  • A leisurely, guided walk along well‑formed tracks.
  • Fascinating stories and insights shared by a local ranger.
  • Regular stops to explore key features and points of interest.
  • Plenty of time for questions, photos and quiet moments in nature.

What you might see

Depending on the day and the season, you may encounter:

  • native birds such as tūī, kererū or fantails flitting through the trees
  • mature forest giants and delicate understory plants
  • signs of animal life and seasonal changes in the landscape
  • historic or cultural features that reveal how people have interacted with this place over time.

Every walk is different and that sense of surprise is part of the magic.

Who this event is suitable for:

  • adults and families
  • nature lovers
  • beginners
  • curious minds.

No prior experience needed.

Participants should be comfortable walking for up to 2 hours with gentle gradients and regular stops. If you’re unsure whether this walk is right for you, please feel free to get in touch as some as steeper and tougher than others.

The pace is relaxed and welcoming, with the focus on enjoyment and discovery rather than distance however a good level of fitness and mobility is required (the Mangemangeroa walk is very steep, as is the Clevedon Scenic Reserve).

Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to meet the group and start on time.
