Celebrate Matariki and the school holidays at Birkenhead Library!

Saturday 4 July to Sunday 19 July | Matariki Kākahu

Design your own feather to add to our collaborative Matariki Kākahu display. Ask our friendly librarians at the front desk for materials.

Running all throughout the school holidays.

Sunday 5 July, 10am - 11.15 am | Robogals - Elastic Catapult Workshop

Join our friends from Robogals and get ready to launch your STEM creativity sky-high with some fun elastic catapult building.

Limited spaces so bookings are required through Eventbrite. For ages 7-12.

Tuesday 7 July, 3pm - 4pm | Māori Games Afternoon

Join us for an hour of fun learning how to play traditional ngā tākaro (Māori games) and te reo board games.

For ages 7+. Adult supervision required.

Thursday 9 July, 10am - 11am | Matariki Star Weaving

Learn how to weave a star out of yarn and a cardboard loom.

Ages 8+. Adult supervision is required. Limited materials so please attend early.

Tuesday 14 July, 10am - 11am | VR Star Experience

Strictly 10+, bookings essential through Humanitix.

Step into the stars this Matariki with the help of virtual reality!

Wednesday 15 July | Matariki Stuffie Sleepover

Do you ever wonder what your soft toy gets up to when you aren’t around? Drop your stuffie off between 13-15 July to help them make some new friends and celebrate Matariki at the library!

They’ll also bring you home your very own photo keepsake. For all ages!!!

Friday 17 July, 10am - 11am | Wonderful World of Tiger Worms

Join Pip from Compost Collective for a fun, hands-on worm farming workshop for kids and whānau. Children will meet tiger worms and learn how they turn food scraps into fertiliser.

For ages 3 to 8. Spaces are limited so bookings are essential through the Compost Collective website.

Friday 17 July, 12pm - 3pm | Zine Printing Workshop - World Emoji Day

Join our friend Graham from Inkiana Press for a fun hands-on printing workshop for World Emoji Day.
