Auckland Zinefest returns to Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki for its 18th annual winter market.

Across two days, discover zines, prints and handmade publications from more than 130 makers from Tāmaki Makaurau and beyond.

What to expect:

  • 10am to 11am: Both days will include a relaxed hour for those who prefer a lower-stimulation environment for browsing.
  • 11am to 4pm: Browse different zine makers each day across Te Ātea, the South Atrium and Grey Gallery, with work spanning art, photography, comics, personal stories and much more.
  • 11am to 3pm: Browse award-winning zines from previous years and create your own zine in the E H McCormick Research Library.
  • 11am to 4pm: Visit the East Terrace for a kai break, with food and drinks on offer from local favourites. Please note food and drink cannot be taken back into the Gallery spaces.
  • 11am to 3pm: Get creative on the East Terrace by making a take-home badge or a teeny-tiny zine to turn into a pin or magnet.

We recommend bringing a bag for your purchases, as well as some cash, as not all stallholders may accept cashless payments.

What is a zine?

Zines are independently made and self-published works created by people with something to share. They can explore personal experiences, niche interests, creative ideas and perspectives that are not often found in mainstream publishing.

With roots in activist, punk and fandom cultures, zines can take many forms and are open to anyone to create.

Keep an eye on Auckland Zinefest's Instagram, Facebook and website for stallholder reveals, activity announcements and more.

Proudly presented in collaboration with Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki and supported by the Creative Communities Scheme and Auckland Council.
