Response 165 Kai Rākau Heritage Food Tree Tour, BBQ & Picnic!

Learn all about the Kai Rākau NZ Food Tree Project.

This community-led initiative under the umbrella of Sustainable Paremoremo is dedicated to creating a living 'museum orchard'. Since 2010, the project has lobbied for land, grafted, gathered and planted heritage fruit, nut, subtropical and native medicinal trees, preserving endangered varieties and to showcase what can thrive in the Auckland region.

The project also helps care for near-forgotten heritage orchard remnants throughout the Upper Waitematā, supporting biodiversity, community wellbeing, and the sharing of traditional food-growing and Rongoā Māori knowledge.

Join us for a family-friendly picnic and barbecue among the heritage fruit trees, followed by a guided walk exploring the collection of food and medicinal plants.
