Leys Orchestra explores the home-away-from-home early Aucklanders built over a century ago, performing some of the music as Auckland matured from a far-flung European outpost in the south pacific into the multicultural cosmopolitan city of today.
The 'Cockney Suite' by Ketelby portrays cameos of London life of the 1920s, while high society is represented with music by Strauss and a children's favourite gets some special treatment.
Curious selections from the Leys Orchestra heritage music collection with their own stories to tell round out the programme, which concludes with the ever popular 'Land of Hope and Glory' by Elgar.
