Response 104 Abattoir, Paddock And Town The Architecture Of Food

In this open-studio exhibition, Painter of Paradise Martin Law presents a collection of paintings and line drawings that document the functional architecture and landscapes behind our food production systems.

The works capture lush pastures, complete with no. 8-wire fencing, shelter hedges, and water troughs. Beyond the open fields, the rural agricultural buildings, including early dairies, animal sheds and woolsheds.

Highlights are representations of historical structures like the now-demolished Matakana abattoir, alongside scenes from the Port of Auckland where overseas produce arrives to supplement local supply. Each piece finds beauty in these everyday sites, highlighting the built heritage that continues to shape our regional identity.
