The shared hearth: documentary screening and feast is a live cultural experience for the Auckland Heritage Festival, featuring a screening of The Smoke Remembers, the pilot episode of a new documentary series exploring food as memory, migration and cultural connection.
The film follows Māori and Filipino food traditions, highlighting shared values of fire, earth and communal cooking.
After the screening, we will move into an outdoor food space where Māori, Pasifika, and Filipino cooks and vendors share dishes inspired by these traditions.
We celebrate our city’s cultural diversity and the way food continues to connect communities across oceans and generations.
