“Love is in the air” [i] so follow your heart and nose to Amey Daldy Park in Wynyard Quarter this Valentine’s Day to find a forever friend who’ll return your affection for life.
Auckland Council’s animal management team will have several rescued and abandoned puppies and dogs from their shelters for Aucklanders to meet. The puppies and dogs are desperately seeking new homes.
Come along between 11.30am and 1.30pm on Valentine’s Day and find your “Endless love”[ii].
Auckland Council’s Animal Management Manager Elly Waitoa says the shelters have been overwhelmed with puppies and dogs this season.
“We’re bursting at the seams with unwanted and abandoned puppies and dogs. They come in all shapes, sizes and ages; they are vaccinated, temperament-tested and desexed, before moving into their forever home.
“Our animals are in search of suitors whose affection and responsible pet ownership they can count on long term.
“They’re looking for someone to roll through life with. You could be that special someone,” adds Elly.
The animal shelter puppies will be available for a chin scratch, a bit of belly-rubbing and cuddling with prospective forever partners. Aucklanders are encouraged to pop down where you “Can’t help falling in love”[iii].
Chair of Regulatory and Community Safety Committee Councillor Josephine Bartley says it is sad to see so many puppies and dogs deserted and unloved.
“The shelter staff do an incredible job of caring for the puppies that come into their care; finding loving homes is a priority for them.
“Puppies and dogs give unconditional love, acceptance, and a guaranteed welcome every time they see you. If you’re looking for a “Love like that”[iv], come see our dogs and puppies on the 14 February and perhaps you could be their “Valentine”.
Even if you’re not currently ready for commitment, Aucklanders are still welcome to play the field and come along and enjoy a “doggie” date just for fun; you might even get to take one for a walk!
So, bring along your doggie owning credentials and discover this “Crazy little thing called love”[v].
