Upper Harbour Local Board is welcoming news that a high-end mixed residential and retail development is to be built north of the old Albany village.
The development will comprise apartments, shops and a large underground car park. Construction is due to begin in 2016.
The local board has approved funding from a legacy parking fund to improve public parking and vehicle access along the edge of the adjacent Kell Park. The toilet block in the car park will be replaced by a modern facility within Kell Park.
Removal of the old toilet, along with improved landscape and road design, will clear space for 17 new car parks for park users and village visitors.
Local board chair Lisa Whyte says the result will provide a great amenity for new residents, local business owners and park users. “We have worked closely with Auckland Council’s parks team and the developer to get the best outcome for our residents and businesses, while keeping costs to ratepayers as low as possible,” she says.
“We are really pleased with how this project is shaping up and look forward to construction commencing on the car park and toilet facility in October this year.”
