Auckland Council has partnered with the New Zealand Farm Environment Trust, so that the region’s farmers and horticulturists are eligible to enter the 2016 Ballance Farm Environment Awards – with entries open until 31 October.
The aim is to showcase achievements in environmental sustainability and farming practices that protect and enhance the environment.
“This is an opportunity for Auckland’s rural sector – which is a billion-dollar industry – to showcase best-practice endeavours,” says Councillor Bill Cashmore. “We can exemplify the best the farming industry has to offer in terms of attitude towards sustainability, as well as delivery of economic outcomes.
“Auckland has one of the most diverse rural sectors in the country – with everything from sheep and beef farming to dairying, market gardening and high-tech horticulture. This is great news for the region, and we encourage farmers to enter.”
