Work on a new multi-use motorsport venue at Colin Dale Park is now underway.
The $4.4 million project near Puhinui Reserve will accommodate a range of activities including karting, off-road racing, motocross, BMX, jet sprint and radio-controlled car races.
The start of construction was marked with a sod-turning ceremony and a blessing by representatives of Ngāti Te Ata, including Dame Nganeko Minhinnick, Chair of the Ngāti Te Ata iwi authority.
Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board Chair Efeso Collins says the board’s $2.8 million contribution reflects its dedication to better facilities for locals.
“It’s fantastic to see the work starting on this park, which will become a hub of activity for motorsport and BMX enthusiasts,” he says.
“The facilities and contracted providers will give locals and the wider Auckland population more options for a diverse range of sporting and leisure interests.”
