With its bustling weekend markets, beautiful scenery and genuine country charm, the east Auckland region of Clevedon is the ideal destination for a Sunday drive.
Clevedon offers a choice of Sunday markets: the Farmers Market, from 8.30am-12pm at the Clevedon Showgrounds, and the Village Market from 9am-2pm at the Clevedon Community Hall.
Peruse the stalls and grab some fresh pastries before heading to one of Clevedon’s stunning reserves for a midwinter stroll.
A 10-minute drive from Clevedon’s centre, the Hunua Ranges is a popular spot for bush walkers, with walking tracks ranging from 20 minutes to three hours, and the incredible Hunua Falls makes for an unbeatable photo backdrop.
Nine kilometres north is Duder Regional Park – a perfect spot for flying a kite or letting the kids spend any pent-up energy.
While you’re in Clevedon, step back in time with a visit to the historic McNicol Homestead Museum, which offers a glimpse into the lives of families living in the region in the 1800s. And if it’s a ‘fish ’n’ chips’ kind of day, watch the sun set at Maraetai Beach before heading home.
