Auckland Council has bought a 78ha property next to Te Rau Pūriri Regional Park on the southern edge of Kaipara Harbour, increasing the size of the existing parkland and creating opportunities to develop recreational facilities in the area.
“This purchase consolidates and complements the parkland around Te Rau Pūriri and significantly adds to our regional parks network,” says Councillor Christine Fletcher, chair of the Parks, Recreation and Sport Committee.
“At a time when Auckland is experiencing rapid population growth, our regional park network provides much-needed green spaces and bush land.”
There are 26 council-run regional parks in Auckland. They have a total area of more than 40,560ha, or 40 per cent of the public open space in the region.
