Mention Muriwai and most people think wild surf or black sand beach - but wait there's more!
Wind your way up the cliff-side path and you'll see Auckland’s most accessible gannet colony. It is one of only three easily accessible mainland gannet breeding colonies in New Zealand.
The birds start returning in July and chicks are hatching by November.
Allow about half an hour to walk out to the viewing platforms.
Check the Muriwai webpage for more information.
