Project Twin Streams 01

Get on your bike at the award-winning Project Twin Streams walkways and cycleways along the Oratia, Opanuku and Waikumete streams in west Auckland.

Project Twin Streams encompasses a total of 9.6km of different cycleways and walkways, which feature tiled artworks, community installations and information panels along the way. The 3m-wide paths offer ample space for both cyclists and walkers.

The cycleways and walkways are part of Project Twin Streams, a large-scale environmental restoration project that started in 2003.

The project involves revegetating 56km of west Auckland stream banks with native trees and shrubs. This stabilises the stream banks to prevent erosion, filters toxins from the water and creates a cool, shaded environment for creatures and plants to thrive.

The project is the result of a partnership between Auckland Council and various community organisations.
