Swanson park and ride a boon for commuters

A new park-and-ride facility has opened at the Swanson train station, providing nearly 140 additional car parks for Swanson rail commuters.

The facility is located on KiwiRail land behind 710-720 Swanson Road. Vehicle entry and exit is between the existing skate park and the Challenge petrol station.

A raised pedestrian footpath and ramp connects commuters to the rail station platform. The park and ride is fully fenced and includes native rain gardens, CCTV and lighting.

“I hope the extra parking spaces will encourage more people to take advantage of the train – a greener and less stressful way to get to work,” says Waitākere Ranges Local Board Chair Sandra Coney.

“As well, commuters’ journeys will be even better with the new electric trains coming into service on the Western line. Residents in rural and coastal areas will benefit from the new parking and faster, more frequent trips."

“Local businesses should benefit too. With commuters using the park and ride, the streets should be clearer for shoppers to park. I thank Auckland Transport for completing this project. Thank you also to local residents and businesses for their patience during the construction period.”
