The old East Tamaki–Hampton Sports Park is now home to Otara sports park – Te Puke o Tara.
Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board funded the upgrades as part of its local board plan, including five sports platforms, a dedicated training area, and a car park.
The sports fields and car park have been blessed by local iwi and declared open by the Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board Chair Fa'anānā Efeso Collins.
Mr Collins says sportsfields in the area are very popular and the board wants to make sure there are good options available to be more active, more often.
“Five new local sports fields, particularly in time for summer, will help us deal with demand from local teams and gives them great flexibility in organising their sporting activities,” says Mr Collins.
“Over the past two years, we’ve focused on a sports park renewal and development programme that will improve the quality and carrying capacity of a number of existing and new sports parks. This is a key part of that plan.”
Fields at the park can be booked via 09 301 0101 or enquiry@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz. Don’t miss out!
