Just open, the Orewa Skate Park is already a popular destination. Heralded as one of the best designed skate parks in New Zealand, it's being well used by skateboarders, scooters and bikers of all ages and abilities.
The skate park is a significant project delivered by the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board. It’s a great result of local skaters, local contractors and council parks' staff teaming up with the local board to design, build and open the modern multi-use facility in time for summer.
The new skate park has been largely rebuilt over the old skate park and uses recycled materials for seats and a sculpture to hang bags and jackets.
Features that provide skate opportunities for all ages and abilities include large and medium half pipes, turn-around quarter pipes, a corner taco ramp, hipped corner, bridge, rails, ledges, pump bump, manual pad, hang out and judging area.
Still to come: a shade structure will be installed over the spectator mound and the lights will be connected.
The skate park is situated at Orewa’s Western Reserve, right next to the estuary and the Te Ara Tahuna Estuary Cycle and Walkway.
