Some of Auckland’s local heroes were honoured at an awards ceremony at the Ellerslie Events Centre on Tuesday 1 December.
As part of the 2016 New Zealander of the Year Awards, the 72 Kiwibank Local Heroes were presented with medals to recognise their achievements.
Qualities that hold our communities together
Deputy Mayor Penny Hulse presented the medals. “These fine people embody the qualities that have long held our community together,” she said.
“Their charity, selflessness and generosity have touched the lives of so many and make our community a better place to live. That’s why we stand with them tonight and honour them as Auckland’s very own local heroes.”
