Auckland Council is aware of media reports about protesters who have climbed trees on private property in New Lynn to prevent them being removed.
The developers of the property, on Margan Ave, were granted a resource consent in November to build new homes. The property is within a special housing area.
The trees can be removed from the site as a permitted activity under its zoning. They are not protected under the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan, which has effect within special housing areas.
“The developer has planned a comprehensive redevelopment of the site, including 88 units for new houses,” says John Dunshea, General Manager, Development Project Office.
“New trees will be planted as part of the redevelopment, which includes substantial landscaping.”
