A dawn blessing event took place on 17 December in Milford to officially open the now completed Wairau Creek Bridge.
The event was held in Milford Reserve and was attended by local residents, Devonport-Takapuna Local Board members, Milford mariners and North Shore elected members, who have keenly awaited its completion and opening.
The new state-of-the-art drawbridge provides local residents with direct access to Milford Reserve from Beach Road, and provides a critical sustainable transport connection for walkers and cyclists between Castor Bay and Milford.
The project cost was around $2.9 million to design, consent and build.
A family fun day event is scheduled to take place in Milford Reserve on the afternoon of 12 February 2016 and will feature an outdoor movie in the evening.
