If you haven’t had time to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city over summer, a day trip to Āwhitu Regional Park could be just what you need.
A short one-hour drive from downtown Auckland, Āwhitu offers a wonderful escape with magnificent views across the Manukau Heads to the Waitākere Ranges.
Pack a picnic and simply unwind and enjoy the scenery, or explore the regional park with its fantastic walking and biking trails.
Feel like a dip in the sea? Choose from the wilder black sands of the west coast, or the more tranquil white-sand beaches along the eastern bays.
And no trip to the peninsula would be complete without visiting the Manukau Heads lighthouse. Sitting at the very tip of the peninsula, the lighthouse is open to the public.
Visitors can enjoy the artworks on display inside, learn a little about the region’s history, and climb to the top and take in the incredible view. Visit Auckland Council to find out more about our regional parks.
