2016 is Year of the Monkey and this week Auckland Libraries have kicked off a great range of events to celebrate the fact.
Story time in mandarin, lion dancing, lantern and red pocket-making workshops, cultural performances and tai chi will all feature along with a raft of other activities in Lunar New Year celebrations at our libraries.
Get in touch with your inner monkey
According to Chinese tradition, in the Year of the Monkey, those born under the sign are known for their curiosity about the world and their quick, innovative thinking. What better place to get in touch with your inner monkey in 2016 than the local library?
The programme is part of a long-standing commitment by libraries to recognise the significant events in the lives of all Aucklanders.
Celebrating diversity
“To celebrate the diversity that is Auckland, we encourage locals to explore and enjoy a variety of performances at their neighborhood libraries this Lunar New Year", says Cr. Cathy Casey, Community Development and Safety Committee chair.
Our Libraries offers the opportunity to experience a wealth of resources which range from Asian language book and magazines to on-line services like the Chinese Digital Community, Dragonsource and Press Display.
