The Victoria Park Tunnel (State Highway 1) will be closed to all traffic for several nights this week (15-21 February) while important maintenance and safety work is carried out.
The NZ Transport Agency says traffic which usually uses the tunnel will still be able to move through the city via a diversion route from Nelson Street to the SH1 on-ramp at Fanshawe Street.
The closures from approximately 10:30pm during the night until 5am in the morning have been timed to coincide with the lightest traffic volumes to minimise disruption to drivers.
The maintenance and safety work which includes equipment testing, is essential to keep the tunnels operating safely for all road users.
- Victoria Park Tunnel closed from 2230 until 0500, 15 February, 16 February, 17 February, 18 February and open again by 0400 on Friday 19 February.
- Another closure overnight on Sunday 21 February
- Diversions in place from Nelson Street to the SH1 on ramp at Fanshawe Street
