Progress continues on Kaimataara ō Wai Manawa, a new split-level public space, lookout and cafe in the heart of Birkenhead.

Kaimataara ō Wai Manawa will overlook Le Roys Bush, the public reserve stretching from Birkenhead Town Centre to Little Shoal Bay Reserve.

Preparatory work began last October. The lookout and cafe are now starting to take shape, with the steel frame of the building and timber decking of the lookout being installed. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2016.

Kaimataara ō Wai Manawa is one of several projects being undertaken as part of a works programme in the Birkenhead Town Centre. An upgrade of the Rawene Public Car Park, installation of a new pedestrian crossing outside the library and improvements along Mokoia Road are also underway.

Park works at Zion Hill Reserve should be completed in late February, while a new walking track though Le Roys Bush is now complete and ready for use.
