After eight months of hard work, the Auckland Transport Alignment Project (ATAP) team continues to make progress on its aim to agree the best projects to invest in for a solution to Auckland’s transport woes.

In February the first deliverable of the project was agreed by the project’s political leaders – Simon Bridges, Bill English, Len Brown and myself.

This foundation report provides an overview of the project’s strategic context and current transport situation, an outline of future trends and assumptions, the evaluation framework for projects, and an assessment of future transport challenges.

We are all well aware of the current situation and ongoing challenges of population growth. The next phase will be to design and test the combinations of transport improvement packages.

Throughout the design process we’ll keep three main objectives in mind: improving access to jobs, reducing traffic congestion, and increasing public transport use.
