Registrations are now open for Great Barrier Local Board’s Off the Grid event, which takes place from 12 to 15 May.

The event starts in Auckland on 12 May then moves to the island for the weekend. “People are very self-sufficient and independent on Great Barrier,” says local board chair Izzy Fordham.

“We live off the grid, which is quite different to most of New Zealand. This leads to innovative thinking and many types of alternative power systems, from budget to state of the art.”

Off the Grid’s programme includes tours of residential and commercial properties, demonstrations of the latest energy storage solutions, and discussions and forums. Visit Off the Grid to register.
