For Auckland to progress towards its goal of being a great city it is clear that intensification of housing is a necessary part of our planning.
New Lynn and Avondale demonstrate the ability for this process to be successful through carefully staged planning, and consultation and engagement with the community to ensure our vision is shared and embraced.
Building affordable apartments in proximity to transport hubs while balancing this against open green space and recreational needs is key.
Currently we are engaged in the Unitary Plan process. While I support the vision of intensification, I am a firm advocate for this being achieved through ensuring due process and natural justice principles are adhered to through the independent hearing panel process.
