Zoo Tales: Nose + horn = rhinos

In this week’s Zoo Tales, Auckland Zoo keeper Henry introduces Mtoto, one of our male rhinos.

With that big horn on their heads, our rhinos may look scary to some people – but if you ask Pridelands keeper Henry, he’ll tell you they’re gentle giants! 

The word rhinoceros is a combination of two Greek words – rhino (nose) and ceros (horn).

Council-controlled organisation Regional Facilities Auckland manages major regional facilities and iconic venues across Auckland, including Auckland Zoo.
