The head of sustainability at Panuku Development Auckland has been honoured with a national energy leadership award.
Dr Viv Heslop received the award at the EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority) awards ceremony held at Shed 10 on Queens Wharf this week to celebrate national excellence and innovation in energy efficiency or renewable energy.
Dr Heslop received the honour out of a group of three other finalists, for her work in ensuring the delivery of stringent targets as part of the Wynyard Quarter regeneration.
This included scoping and championing the concept of a ‘smart precinct’, displaying real-time water and energy use for the Wynyard Quarter. This data can then be monitored, captured and reported for all residential, commercial and public areas.
Panuku Interim Chief Executive John Dalzell says it is a fitting tribute to the strategic focus and energy Dr Heslop has shown in recent years working with development partners to push boundaries in building performance and measuring energy consumption at a precinct level.
Mr Dalzell says in addition to being a great individual accolade, it’s also valuable recognition of the ground breaking sustainable city building initiatives being implemented by Panuku on the Auckland waterfront.
Collectively, the initiatives demonstrated by the 2016 EECA Award entries are expected to save or generate energy equivalent to the annual energy use of all households in New Plymouth, and avoid 120,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, about one-fifth of the annual emissions of all households in New Zealand.
