As we hit the start of July we hope winter is going well for everyone. With the cold and rain it’s a time of year you feel especially glad to have a roof over your head and a warm home, something not everyone can say these days. Winter sports are in full flight. If you want to catch some live action you could do a lot worse than watch some of the games at local sports grounds – they’re every bit as passionate as anything on TV and often a lot more entertaining. Besides sport, there will be a lot of other things happening in the Albany Ward over this second half of the year. A number of significant projects across the ward will either start or finish. Others will begin early next year. There’s still a lot more to be done, especially with the huge growth in housing across every part of our ward. The essential investment in transport, recreation and community facilities is crucial – much more than can be provided solely off the back of a ratepayer base. We are indeed blessed to live in such a beautiful part of Auckland. Our future success depends on ensuring that all our communities, new and old, continue to function holistically for the people who live there. There will be no more councillor messages for a while – many thanks to everyone who has helped us during this term of council.
