Last Sunday, Kaipatiki Local Board celebrated the opening its new BMX pump track at Birkenhead War Memorial Park.

A couple of hundred local residents attended and enjoyed the free entertainment on offer, including a pro-rider demonstration.

Pump tracks are designed for BMX riders and feature twists, turns and humps for riders to ride, jump and navigate.

This track is made of reinforced concrete, and compliments the existing dirt BMX track in the same park. Concrete tracks provide riders with a different experience and allows usage all year round in most weather conditions.

The new track was designed with the assistance of award-winning specialist track builder Nathan Greenwood and from feedback provided by local riders and leisure centre staff.

This project is part of a wider series of improvement works at Birkenhead War Memorial Park. Recently the park’s entrance was improved, the children’s play space revamped, and the park’s toilet block upgraded. Next on the improvements list is the parks skating area and visitor car park.
