Watch: Why you should stand for council

Last Updated : 01 Mar 2018

Have you thought about standing for council in the local elections in October? This week is Candidate Week so it’s the perfect time to get practical tips and learn more about candidacy.

Elected roles for council include local boards, councillors and mayor. Voters will also get to choose district health board representatives and licensing trust members in the areas where these exist. Anyone over the age of 18 can stand for election as long as they are a New Zealand citizen and on the Parliamentary Electoral Roll.

“Many Aucklanders want to contribute to their local community, so this is a good time for those people who may be interested to look at their options,” says Auckland Council Electoral Officer Dale Ofsoske.
