Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2016 (Māori Language Week 2016) runs from Monday 4 July to Sunday 10 July.
The kaupapa this year is ‘ākina to reo’ – ‘behind you all the way’, which is about using te reo Māori to support people, to inspire, and to cheer on.
One of the goals of Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland Council) is to support ‘te hau o te whenua, te hau o te tangata’ (a Māori identity that is Auckland’s point of difference in the world) – supporting te reo Māori is an important part of this.
You don’t have to wait for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori to start your kōrero though. Check out the phrases below to get started. We also publish a new 'phrase of the week' every Monday morning, with new kupu (words) and rerenga (sentences) to help you learn – so check back then!
