The Mountain Road walkway in Henderson Valley is now complete.

It connects to the Opanuku Pipeline Track, which links to the Hillary Trail and the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park track network.

The 750m walkway provides a safe route for locals to access their homes by offering an alternative to the narrow, high-traffic road that lacks a dedicated footpath.

“Waitākere Ranges Local Board took up this project after the local Henderson Valley Residents’ Association presented the idea to us,” says board member Steve Tollestrup. “They wanted a safe walkway for locals and visitors."

“After further community consultation, the wood from a large dying macrocarpa tree, which was removed during the walkway’s construction, was donated to Henderson Valley Primary School. The school will dry the wood and sell it as a fundraiser.”

The project was funded by Waitākere Ranges Local Board’s Capital Transport Fund.
