Students vote for top government graduate employer
In February, graduates from Auckland Council's 2016 intake started working in Libraries, Finance, Environmental Services, Digital and Business Support, Engineering, Building Control and other departments across the organisation.

University students have voted Auckland Council the number one government graduate workplace.

A survey by GradConnection New Zealand and Talent Solutions saw Auckland Council ranked ahead of other public institutions as the "most desirable government graduate employer"  for the second time running.

Auckland Council also received third place as most desired graduate employer in New Zealand overall.

Win shows changing perspectives

Elin Forslund, Auckland Council's Early Career Pathways team leader, says it's incredibly exciting to be recognised by students as a top employer and notes the changing perspective among students.

"We have been fortunate to be able to recruit talented graduates who are highly valued in our workforce and are already having a big impact on our organisation," says Elin.

"It's fantastic to see the change in students' perceptions from the council being all about rates and rubbish to being one of the most attractive employers with plenty of career opportunities."

About the graduate programme

Auckland Council's graduate programme, now in it's third year, aims to build high-performing teams and foster future leaders to help shape Auckland.

The first recruitment for Finance, Building Control and Waste Solutions students has now closed, but a second recruitment for all other areas opens next month.
