Work on the Albany Highway north upgrade is ahead of schedule and the new road will open in October.
The upgraded section of Albany Highway will be widened from two to four lanes. Two will be for general traffic and the others will be T2 transit lanes for buses and vehicles carrying two or more people.
The transit lanes will operate Monday to Friday from 7am to 9am and 3pm to 6pm, and will help improve morning and afternoon peak travel time. Outside of these hours they will operate as general traffic lanes for all users.
On- and off-road cycle facilities have also been built, and the footpaths widened in both directions.
Separate pedestrian and cycle paths have been built where practical, with shared paths used in other places. These additions will help make cycling and walking safer and more enjoyable for local residents, students and commuters.
