Little Shoal Bay Review
The playground at Little Shoal Bay offers great views of the Waitemata Harbour.

We’re taking a look at some of the best playgrounds around Auckland. This week: Little Shoal Bay, Council Terrace, Northcote

Stunning views and a seaside spot add to some great playground features at Little Shoal Bay.

Sited in the reserve near the beachfront, looking out over the Waitematā Harbour, the playground's been given a cool nautical theme, with much of the play equipment painted blue.

What's on offer?

There are four swings, with two of them suitable for smaller children.

There's also a balance beam, a rope bridge, a small flying fox, two metal bridges, a fireman’s pole, a rope climbing wall, two slides, several ladders, spinning barrels for running, a crawling tunnel, monkey bars and a small game with movable shapes.

Heaps more to do

The playground's not all that's on offer at this popular reserve.

There's also the Birkenhead Sea Scouts building, a barbecue, picnic tables, and six pieces of exercise equipment for bigger kids and adults, as well as a tennis court on the other side of the road from the playground.

The reserve is large and flat, making it perfect for a friendly game of cricket at the family picnic. When the tide is in, the water comes right up to the reserve – bring your togs and towel in case you feel like going for a paddle!

Car parking is available.
