Playground review: City suburb's hidden gem

Costley Reserve Park
There's plenty of fun to be had at the Costley Reserve in Ponsonby.

We’re taking a look at some of Auckland's best playgrounds. This week: Costley Reserve, Costley Street, Freemans Bay

In the heart of Freemans Bay in Auckland’s CBD is a little green oasis called Costley Reserve.

The playground there is a hidden gem built with natural materials, helping it blend into its surrounding environment.

The main attraction is a craft-built timber fort of wobbly wood, which offers endless options for imaginative play. For younger children there's a small, safe slide, a basket swing and climbing and balancing equipment.

There's plenty of shade, thanks to the fort's roof and the surrounding trees.

There's limited street parking in the area, so it's best to get here on foot.

Best suited for children aged 5-11.
